Two years have gone by, and MB 238746’s homecoming trip comes back to life in Turin’s Museo dell’Automobile. The “Modus Vivendi” (Way of Life) exhibition celebrates great travels and the cars which undertook them. Amidst awe-inspiring Ferraris, great rally stars like the Fulvia HF and even the Fiat Campagnola from the Algiers-Cape Town rally, our Willys MB is the oldest car on display and that which covered the shortest distance. But it is also the car whose trip was driven by the most unusual reason: something within ourselves, without sponsors, chasing no prize, undertaken by three individuals following their hearts – not last the desire to return two dogtags to the family of a soldier who had lost them in Italy 70 years earlier. Are we moved by the honor? Well – yes. In any case, although the Willys will be away until September 27, we know it will be in good hands.
