Homecoming 2013 will start from the Anzio landing museum, south of Rome. From here the Jeep will go to Naples for shipment to New York City, where it will clear customs. The crew will pick up the Jeep in Newark on May 19 and drive to Toledo, reaching it on June 3 – exactly 70 years after it left the Willys factory.
Of the many stops along the route, the most poignant will be in Cleveland, Ohio, where we will return two US Army dogtags to the family of a GI who lost them in 1944. The tags were found in 2010 on the shores of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome.
The Italian government has made 2013 the “Year of Italian Culture in USA” and the Italian Embassy in Washington has assured its support.
